COVID has accelerated some major trends in real estate, going from the explosion of digital and e-commerce to the shift towards environmental and social priorities.

During this session different real estate experts will share their views on these major shifts, and which real estate sectors are likely to benefit from them – including healthcare, affordable housing, logistics or life sciences to name a few.

Experts featured in this panel include Lisette Van Doorn from ULI Europe, Tim Wang from Clarion Partners and Raymond Jacobs from Franklin Real Asset Advisors.

Lisette van Doorn

CEO, ULI Europe

As chief executive of ULI Europe, Lisette van Doorn is  responsible for the development of the Institute’s activities across the region, including its renowned pan-European conferences and over 250 local meetings and events across 14 countries.

Van Doorn joined ULI from LIRE, her own consultancy business, which advises international institutional real estate investors and fund managers on strategy, organisational optimisation and portfolio structuring.

Prior to this, van Doorn was country manager for CBRE Global Investors where she managed a €1.6bn portfolio of assets in Italy and fund manager of two shopping centre funds (€ 1.3 billion) with assets in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Before joining CBRE Global Investors, van Doorn was founding chief executive for INREV, the European association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles for four and a half years. She started her career at ING Investment Management, where she held account manager and assistant controller positions before being made managing director of research & strategy for ING Real Estate Investment Management Europe.

Tim Wang

Managing Director, Head of Investment Research,
Clarion Partners

Tim Wang, equity owner and Managing Director, is the Head of Investment Research at Clarion Partners. Tim leads the group in supporting the development of firm-wide and business unit-specific investment strategy and advising on portfolio strategy utilizing proprietary analytics and econometric forecasting.

He joined the Firm in 2006 and is a member of Clarion Partners’ Investment Committee. Tim has published numerous real estate research articles and co-authored five real estate strategy books, including Active Private Equity Real Estate Strategy (2009), Guide to U.S. Real Estate Investing (2009), Emerging Market Real Estate Investment: Investing in China, India, and Brazil (2010), Inside the Real Estate Fund Investor (2011), and Real Estate Mathematics (2011). 

He is a frequent guest speaker at real estate investment conferences.

Raymond Jacobs

Managing Director, Franklin Real Estate Advisors

Raymond J. Jacobs joined Franklin Templeton in 1999 and is Managing Director of Franklin Real Assets Advisors, the firm's dedicated real estate and infrastructure investment platform. In addition to his responsibilities on the Management Committee, Mr. Jacobs heads the European private equity real estate investment and portfolio management and serves on the Global Investment Committee.

He started his commercial property career in Europe and the United States in 1990. Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, Mr. Jacobs worked both in indirect and direct real estate investment, research and asset management functions at Dutch firm GIM Capital Management, listed Swedish property company PriFast and the New York office of a private Japanese property company.

Mr. Jacobs holds an M.B.A. from Aston University in the United Kingdom and a B.B.A from Nijenrode University, The Netherlands School of Business. Following a six year term on the Board of INREV, he currently serves as member of the association's Investor Advisory Council. In addition, Mr. Jacobs serves on the investor advisory committees of various international and European private equity real estate funds.

George Szemere

George Szemere is Head of Alternatives Sales at Franklin Templeton. He is responsible for generating and retaining assets within Franklin Templeton's alternatives product suite, working closely with the FT Alternatives leadership team to develop a strategic plan focusing on sales generation, new product ideas and alternative solutions to support our institutional and retail clients.

In addition, he provides strategic advice, expertise and insights regarding FT alternatives investment solutions capabilities to key distribution partners and sophisticated clients.

George brings over 18 years' experience in asset management combining technical sales, relationship management, product development and leadership skills across EMEA. His previous role was as Head of Liquid Alternatives at Columbia Threadneedle where he worked for over 10 years,. Prior to that, he worked for ABN AMRO Asset Management and Goldman Sachs Asset Management, in both firms as a Client Portfolio Manager.

He earned a Bachelor degree of Social Science with honours in Economics from the University of Birmingham. He is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and Chapter Executive.
